Poes are ghosts and recurring enemies in the Legend of Zelda Series. They are seen wielding Lanterns that they use to set Link alight. Sometimes, special, more powerful and trickier Poes may appear.

Appearances[]

The Legend Of Zelda: A Link to the past[]

Poes appeared around Hyrule, mostly in the Graveyard area, when Link pushed certain Graves. They floated randomly across the screen, creating a collision hazard

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time[]

In Ocarina of Time, Poes resemble black creatures with glowing eyes and wear torn robes. The Poe Salesman says that they are monstrous ghosts that hate everything, and he will pay Link Rupees if he gives a Poe to him. This is done by defeating a Poe and capturing its soul in a bottle. Normal Poes are worth 10 Rupees, while a Big Poe is 50 rupees. In the Forest Temple, unique poes appear, all sisters, named Joelle, Beth, Amy, and Meg. They steal the four specific coloured fires that keeps the elevator down to the boss room, forcing Link to hunt them down and dispatch them all to return the fire and proceed.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask[]

Poes appeared in varioous regions across Termina and acted similar to their Ocarina Incarnation. The Poe sisters return in the Poe Salesman's game.

The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker[]

In The Wind Waker, Poes resemble monsters with small colored hippo-like bodies wearing ghostly masks and have Wind Waker's "signature" symbol on their stomachs. Once they lose their lanterns, they attempt to possess Link, causing the controls to flip(example: Pushing the analog stick up makes Link go down).

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess[]

While most predominately, the Subclass of Poes known as Imp Poes appear, normal Poes appear in the Arbiter's Grounds, complete with hoods, lanterns and powers of invisibility, and serve the same purpose as the Poes in OoT, they steal fire keeping a door unlocked, forcing Link to hunt them.
